You can store a Nifti-Reel and a large parachute (6" / 183 cm) in a cargo pocket (the Nifti-Reel is the same length as a large DSMB rolled up: 7.9" / 200 mm).
You can use the Nifti-Reel with the thickest gloves: 5-finger "Heavy-Duty" waterproof gloves, size 2XL (US size 11), with heated undergloves.
Weight on land
Less than 240 grams, including 40 m of Polyester thread or 125 m of Dyneema thread.
Buoyancy: slightly negative
If you drop the Nifti-Reel into the water, it will sink slowly; the line will not unwind. In practice, if your DSMB contains a few milliliters of air, the whole "Nifti-Reel attached to the DSMB" will have a near-neutral buoyancy.

Polyester and HDPE do not absorb water and therefore do not swell (On the spool, a swollen thread could become self-locking).
Advantages of Nifti-Reel
Easy to use
The Nifti-Reel enables to launch a DSMB in around 30 seconds, even for beginners or those with limited dexterity (e.g. with thick gloves). Check out the video and the illustrated user manual!
Safe
During the dive, the line won't unwind because the spool is locked. However, the design of the Nifti-Reel makes it impossible to forget to unlock the before using the DSMB. You can also be 100% sure that the spool will remain unlocked during the entire DSMB ascent.
Practical
Holding the Nifti-Reel does not monopolize your hand: All your fingers remain available to hold the DSMB while you inflate it with the other hand. You can also change hands in an instant, for example to move your DSMB away from an obstacle or to help a team-mate.
Light
The Nifti-Reel weighs less than .53 lbs (240 grams), a great advantage for air travel.
When diving, hang it whereever you like on your body or store it in a cargo pocket on your suit: the Nifti-Reel's ultra-light weight will not affect your trim.
Ergonomic
Its rounded shapes prevent the line from getting caught. Best of all, while the DSMB is ascending, the rewind crank is safely stored inside the spool: the Nifti-reel doesn't vibrate, and it is impossible for the line to get caught in the crank!
Rugged
The Nifti-Reel resists shocks, corrosion, UV rays from the sun, permanent immersion in seawater, bacteria and fungi. But it will not scratch wooden benches and other surfaces of your boat or inflatable boat (RHIB).
Customizable
You can personalize your Nifti-Reel: write your name and useful information on its large label, protected from erasure.
Easy to maintain
Rinsing the Nifti-Reel with fresh water is usually enough, but you can also easily dismantle it (Torx key supplied), clean it and reassemble it. Adjusting the brake is easy (hex key supplied).
