NIFTI BUOY

The Nifti-Reel is an innovative, ergonomic reel designed to enhance safety and ease of use in DSMB launching for divers. Ideal for inexperienced or stressed divers, especially in cold conditions, it features a detachable DSMB that automatically unlocks the spool to prevent forgetting, a lightweight design for easy handling, and a slow sink rate if dropped in water.

The reel allows divers to use all fingers to hold the DSMB, simplifying inflation and making it safer and quicker, significantly reducing depth change risk.

The Nifti-Reel is designed to travel:

  • it is light: less than 0.6 lbs. (270 grams) including 138 ft (42 m) of line;
  • it is compact: 7.9” × 3.8” × 2.6” (200 mm × 97 mm × 67 mm); and
  • it is rugged: Carry your Nifti-Reel without special protection in your luggage.

  • A big DSMB (6 ft/183 cm) and a Nifti-Reel can be stowed into a drysuit cargo pocket, or secured together on a D-ring on your rig.

Weight in water (buoyancy): 0.60 oz (- 17 grams) i.e., slightly negative: if you drop the Nifti-Reel underwater, it sinks slowly (and the line does not unwind).

Line: Braided Nylon or Polyester, diameter 1.7 to 2.0 mm, tensile strength 98 kg, yellow. Length 138 ft (42 m), permits shooting the DSMB at 69 ft (21 m) (69 ft × 2 = 138 ft).

  1. The Nifti-Reel is designed to travel: it is robust, light (0.6 lbs./270 grams) (*) and compact: a Nifti-Reel and a DSMB can be stored in a drysuit cargo pocket.

  2. During the dive, the spool is locked and the line cannot unwind but you cannot forget to unlock it before inflating the DSMB (*).

  3. Holding the Nifti-Reel requires no effort, and you do not risk dropping the Nifti-Reel by opening the fingers (*). If you drop the Nifti-Reel, it changes depth slowly and the line doesn’t unwind. (*)

  4. Without any modification, the Nifti-Reel can be used with both hands; even with the thickest gloves, letting urgently the Nifti-Reel go is easy: just let your wrist rotate.

  5. When holding the Nifti-Reel, all your fingers remain free, for example to inflate your DSMB (or to assist your buddy) (*).

  6. The Nifti-Reel’s rounded shape prevent the line from catching on it; when the DSMB is launched, the rewind lever is parked inside the spool: it’s impossible for the line to get caught in the lever (*).

  7. Shooting the DSMB with the Nifti-Reel does not require great manual skill or strenuous training (*) and it is very quick (around 30 seconds or less): this is valuable in case of emergency; it also decreases the risks of changing depth, which is reassuring when you launch your DSMB at shallow depths.

  8. During the DSMB ascent, no vibrations are transmitted to your hand. (*) The line does not turn abruptly when passing through the line guide, and doesn’t pull on it: holding the Nifti-Reel requires no effort from the wrist, hand or fingers. (*) The Nifti-Reel spool is braked and has low inertia: no line overrun will happen.

  9. During your ascent, rewinding is effortless thanks to the deployable handle. (*) Clicks help you in monitoring your ascent rate without constantly checking your computer.

  10. Locking/unlocking the Nifti-Reel line at a stop is easy.

  11. Personalizing your Nifti-Reel is easy with the write-on label; a cover protects it from erasure. (*)

  12. The Nifti-Reel materials are robust but soft: they do not scratch wood. They resist corrosion, UV, salt water, and fungi, and are recyclable. Disassembling, cleaning, and reassembling the Nifti-Reel is easy. The brake is adjustable. The Nifti-Reel is manufactured in the European Community, locally (Belgium and Northern France). All Nifti-Reel parts can be purchased online as replacement parts. All materials are recyclable.
